Explosions were heard in northern Israel as Iran launched counterstrikes after several ministries in Tehran were attacked.
Tel Aviv is working to intercept the missile using its air defence systems. There have been no casualties.
One missile launched toward central Israel was intercepted by air defences, sources told Times of Israel.
Sirens were heard in the northern Israel following ballistic missiles launched from Iran. Residents who heard the sirens were asked to go into safe rooms.
Sirens were also heard in Jerusalem and the surrounding areas as well as in northern and southern Israel.
Tel Aviv residents reported that their GPS services malfunctioned following Israel and US strikes in Iran.
In a television address, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, “We will not sit idly by when the shadow of annihilation hovers over us.”
He said that the defence forces were striking targets belonging to Iran's regime, including facilities of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and the Basij militia.
“The goal is to put an end to the threat from the ayatollah regime,” he said, adding that the campaign, named 'Operation Lion's Roar' would continue “as long as necessary.”
