Are Houthis planning a surprise land attack on Israel? IDF readies reserves for war
Having witnessed in Saudi Arabia how hard the Houthis can strike, Israel is bracing for air and land attacks from Yemen
Amid reports of a potential Houthi offensive against Israel, the Israel Defense Forces have placed ground, naval, and air units on heightened alert to counter possible surprise attacks. The Iran-backed Yemeni group, which continues its military campaign against Saudi Arabia, has vowed to intensify missile and drone strikes on regional infrastructure. In response, Israeli military commanders are enhancing coordination and preparing rapid response squads to address the escalating threat.

Amid rumours that Iranian officials are considering deploying forces into neighbouring countries if the United States launches fresh strikes, another report has warned of a potential Houthi offensive against Israel.
The Islamic Republic-backed Houthis, who are already fighting Saudi Arabia, may also open a frontier against Tel Aviv—forcing the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to consider establishing a fire coordination centre within the Edom Division, a territorial division of its Southern Command. The Yemeni group has reportedly warned in recent days that they will step up their attacks targeting Israeli territory.
The IDF is preparing for a possible surprise attack by land or sea, The Jerusalem Post said in a report. "Israel is on heightened alert over the possibility of such an attack, given the Houthis' efforts to improve their ability to carry out attacks from both directions," the report read.
The IDF are reportedly not willing to take any chances, as they have seen what the Houthis can do to an adversary like Saudi Arabia, The Jerusalem Post said. Reserve and rapid response squads are on standby, and ground, naval, and air units have been asked to work on improving coordination. Units have also been asked to undergo rigorous training exercises in some parts, the report added.
No relief for Saudi Arabia
Meanwhile, the Houthis vowed on Wednesday to press on with attacks on airports and oil facilities in Saudi Arabia. The group said it had launched ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones at Saudi Aramco facilities in the eastern city of Dhahran, King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, and an Aramco refinery in Riyadh, without specifying when.
Saudi Arabia has faced widening Houthi strikes over the past week, including an attack on Riyadh airport on Saturday that killed 13 people.
