The Saudi Water Authority has granted Chennai-based VA Tech Wabag a letter of award for a large repeat order to set up brackish water reverse osmosis plant in Aljouf, Saudi Arabia. The advanced technology plant will have a capacity of 50 million litre per day.

The company will be responsible for designing, supplying, constructing, and commissioning the plant over the next 14 months with state-of-the-art technology.

The raw water, which are collected by the plant from borewell fields, contains rare elements. Hence, the water needs pre-treatment using ceramic membrane technology, micron cartridge filtration and reverse osmosis. These advanced processes will help ensure long-term reliability and sustainable water supply for the region.

The project commencement date will be announced after the contract is signed by the two parties.

Phani Sathish Kadiyala, Country Manager & Branch GM, Saudi Arabia, said Wabag is honoured to receive this repeat order from the Saudi Water Authority and expressed gratitude for its continued confidence in the Chennai firm.

“This award reflects the Kingdom’s proactive adoption of next-generation water treatment technologies and further reinforces Wabag’s leadership in advanced technology solutions such as brackish water reverse osmosis (BWRO), seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO), and recycle-and-reuse systems,” he added.

“We remain fully committed to delivering this state-of-the-art facility to the highest standards of quality, reliability, and performance, aligned with the Kingdom’s Vision and its focus on sustainable, technology-driven water infrastructure,” said Kadiyala.

In July, the pure-play water tech company signed a deal with Saudi Water Authority to operate a Mega Desalination Plant at Yanbu, Saudi Arabia, to treat 300 million litres per day using SWRO process.

In the past, Wabag developed two water infrastructure assets—an Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) and an SWRO desalination plant—for Saudi Aramco in Jazan Economic City. The ETP with 40 million litre daily (MLD) capacity reuses 32 MLD of industrial wastewater and eight MLD of municipal wastewater to support resource recovery and circularity.

The SWRO facility with 60 million litre daily capacity treats seawater from the Red Sea to supply high-quality potable water fro industrial consumption.
