In what is seen as an ambitious project, the UAE's Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence on Tuesday launched the world's largest Arabic AI model.
What is Jais 2?
The Arabic AI model, named Jais 2, is a 70-billion-parameter language model trained using 600 billion Arabic AI tokens. While it focuses on an Arabic-first approach, it can perform well when it comes to bilingual tasks too.
How to access Jais 2?
You can access Jais 2 at jaischat.ai or Inception's HuggingFace platform. Launched as an open-weight model, Jais 2 will enable companies, institutions and governments to develop applications in various fields including finance, healthcare, education, media etc.

Unlike other AI models which are primarily built around English-centric systems, Jais 2 was developed with Arabic structure, dialects and real usage. Besides Modern Standard Arabic, it also has dataset that covers 17 regional dialects, including Emirati, Gulf, Egyptian, Iraqi and Moroccan. It also incorporates Arabizi, which is a Latin-script Arabic used online.
The bilingual capabilities of Jais 2 are attained by the use of 1.6 trillion English and code tokens.
Global AI models also lack an understanding of classical and contemporary Arabic texts. But Jais 2 was trained on over 4.2 lakh Arabic poems.
