The smoke plumes released by the Hayli Gubbi volcano in Ethiopia have resulted in the disruption of flights across the Middle East, according to reports. The ash clouds from the volcano drifted over Yemen, Oman, India, and northern Pakistan.

While Air Arabia cancelled several flights from Sharjah to destinations across the Middle  East, Africa, and South Asia, Etihad said they were aware of weather conditions  affecting flights across the GCC and Asia, following the volcanic eruption in Ethiopia on November 23. “Etihad flights remain on schedule and will operate as planned,” the statement said.

Emirates and Flydubai are also operating as usual.

However, Akasa Air cancelled all flights to and from Abu Dhabi, Jeddah and Kuwait on Tuesday, while SpiceJet flight from Dubai to Kochi in Kerala, due to depart at 12.25pm, has been delayed until 6.05pm, the Dubai Airports website stated.

Several Air India flights, including services to Chennai, Mumbai, and international destinations, have been cancelled, while flights between India and Doha and  Saudi Arabia were also halted, along with long-haul routes from the US. IndiGo diverted a flight from Kannur to Abu Dhabi to Ahmedabad after ash drifted close to Indian airspace.
