The Odisha government has evacuated over 30,000 people to safety across southern districts following the landfall of Cyclone Arnab in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh. Severe weather conditions, including heavy rainfall and gusty winds, caused widespread disruptions, uprooting trees and blocking roads in districts like Malkangiri, Ganjam, Gajapati, and Rayagada. Emergency response teams have been actively deployed to clear debris, restore communication networks, and manage more than 2,000 well-equipped cyclone shelters. While the storm has weakened into a severe cyclonic storm, the IMD predicts it will continue tracking toward Chhattisgarh over the next 48 hours. Authorities remain on high alert to ensure public safety and rapidly rehabilitate affected regions as the weather system gradually dissipates.
