Delhi weather update: IMD issues rain alert for later this week as minimum temperature drops to 17°C
Delhi's air quality improved by 38 points to the moderate category with a 24-hour average AQI of 153
Delhi experienced a notable improvement in weather and air quality following overnight rain and hailstorms on Sunday, which brought the minimum temperature down to a season-low of 17 degrees Celsius. The India Meteorological Department attributed the weather change to a western disturbance and Arabian Sea moisture, forecasting further temperature drops and more light showers by the end of the week. Additionally, the favorable conditions helped improve Delhi's air quality to the moderate category, while high-altitude regions in neighboring northern states received fresh snowfall.

While Mumbai experiences hot and humid conditions, weather in Delhi is improving this week following overnight rain on Sunday that brought relief to residents. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the showers dropped Delhi's minimum temperature to 17 degrees Celsius, the lowest recorded so far this season.
The Met department has forecast a further drop in minimum temperatures in the coming days, with Delhi expected to receive light showers by the end of the week.
Isolated hailstorms also occurred over parts of central and south Delhi. Ferozpur, Sirsa, Kurukshetra and Fatehabad also witnessed hailstorms, with gusty winds up to 85 kmph recorded over Kaithal.
Delhi's air quality improved by 38 points on Sunday, with the 24-hour average AQI recorded at 153, keeping it in the 'moderate' category.
According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), an AQI between zero and 50 is classified as ‘good’, 51–100 as ‘satisfactory’, 101-200 as ‘moderate’, 201-300 as ‘poor’, 301–400 as 'very poor' and 401–500 as 'severe'.
The next light rainfall spell is likely to occur during 29-30 October, an IMD official said.
The weather activity was attributed to a feeble western disturbance in the middle and upper tropospheric levels, along with moisture flowing in from the Arabian Sea at lower levels. As these moisture-laden winds interact with local atmospheric conditions, they create cloud cover and trigger light, scattered rainfall over the plains of Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi.
The same Western Disturbance brings fresh snowfall to high-altitude areas in Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
Among Delhi’s weather stations, Palam recorded a minimum temperature of 16.7°C on Sunday, while Lodhi Road registered 16.4°C. The minimum temperature was 16.2°C at the Ridge and 17.2°C at Ayanagar.
