Police investigating the tragic deaths of a five-member family in Greater Noida have recovered a voice note pointing to suicide driven by a property dispute, leading to the arrest of three relatives.

Police have uncovered new evidence in the deaths of the five members of a family in Rabupura, Greater Noida, on Saturday.

A couple, Mahesh and Lalitha, and their three children were found dead in their beds by neighbours who grew suspicious after they did not appear in the morning.

Their last meal consisted of Maggi and tea, and police initially suspected food poisoning

Police officials said that they found a voice note left by the father, Mahesh.

In the audio, he is heard blaming and holding his two sisters, Sunita and Sapna and a brother-in-law responsible for their deaths. The audio has now raised the possibility that the family died by suicide. Police are examining the time stamp of the audio to determine when it was created.

Forensic experts have also found symptoms consistent with poisoning in the post-mortem examination.

The actual cause of death, however, will only be known after the viscera reported is recovered.

A case was registered against the three, and they were arrested based on a complaint from Lalitha’s brother Akash. Police say the family was involved in a property dispute.

The family reportedly received a substantial amount for land acquisition; the division of the amount was reportedly the main dispute.

Mahesh’s elder brother Rahul reportedly died in 2019 by suicide after jumping in front of a train due to the same dispute, reports said
