A woman journalist who is three months pregnant and was injured during the Opposition parties’ march to the Supreme Court on Monday has alleged that she fell to the ground after being pushed by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
The Congress has denied the allegation, dismissing it as propaganda allegedly orchestrated by the BJP.
The journalist has been identified as Richa Parashar, who works for news website Oneindia. She has been admitted to a hospital in the national capital.
In a video message, Parashar alleged that Gandhi grabbed her hand and yanked it so hard that she fell on the ground. She further alleged that Gandhi also pushed her cameraman, who fell on top of her, followed by four to five other people.
Sharing the video on social media, BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari alleged that Gandhi elbowed and grabbed the journalist, causing her to fall to the ground.
“We went to visit her, and she told us that Rahul Gandhi himself grabbed her by the shoulder, yanked her, and threw her to the ground. She wasn't even asking him questions; she was simply covering the protest,” Bhandari said.
Bhandari also criticised Gandhi over visuals that purportedly show the Congress leader elbowing people walking alongside him, including Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar.
“You might have seen how he shoved his own Chief Minister, DK Shivakumar, backwards. He elbows his own workers, and the way he manhandled a female journalist makes it clear that Rahul Gandhi is a man filled with hatred, in every fibre of his being, for this country's democracy and its women,” he said.
The Congress and other Opposition parties marched towards the Supreme Court on Monday to protest alleged irregularities in the electoral roll revision exercise and demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
