Former Rajasthan MLA and senior BJP leader Attar Singh  Bhadana was allegedly lynched to death by a mob  in the state’s Bharatpur district following a dispute over the resumption of a crusher plant. Bhadana, who was seriously injured in a violent clash at the crusher plant in Bhondha-Raipur village, succumbed to his injuries on  Sunday evening.

Local media reports said the incident happened around 6:30 pm. The crusher unit was out of service for nearly a year, and efforts were underway to restart its operation.

Local villagers allege the crusher had encroached on pastureland, and this had escalated into a long-standing dispute over access rights. When Bhadana arrived at the scene with his supporters, a heated argument broke out between the protesting villagers and his side, which quickly escalated into violence. Both Bhadana and his aide Gagan Sharma were injured and rushed to hospital. Bhadana died later.

Alleging illegal mining and encroachment on the access road, the villagers had been protesting for two years and had been staging a sit-in for the last 15 days. The villagers claim that on Sunday, Bhadana arrived with 40–50 people to force an end to the protest, leading to a stone-pelting between the two sides. The people attacked the former MLA with  sticks and stones, according to reports.

According to Bhadana’s wife, Kamlesh Singh, the protest against the unit has been going on for some time. She said the local  people had been disconnecting the crusher plant's power supply, sabotaging the water pump, and intimidating employees for a long time, and they had approached the police about this. “These incidents were constantly reported to the police and administration, but no effective action was taken," she added.

Though Singh raised suspicion that Bhadana was shot, doctors at the local hospital have ruled out a gunshot wound based on their preliminary examination.

Police said no case has been  registered with the police by any party regarding the incident.
