A massive security blanket seems to have thwarted the Cockroach Janta Party's planned protest at Jantar Mantar. CJP leaders Abhijeet Dipke, Saurav Das, and Ashutosh Ranka were detained by the Delhi Police aboard their aircraft immediately upon landing in the capital. The party released a pre-recorded video message from Dipke, filmed on Friday night in anticipation of his arrest ahead of the October 10 protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Meanwhile, in the absence of their top leadership, the responsibility of commanding Saturday's protest was passed down to Ajinkya Shinde. "Until Abhijeet Dipke, Saurav Das, and Ashutosh Ranka are in detention, CJP's organisation in-charge Ajinkya Shinde will lead this protest at Jantar Mantar," the CJP said while sharing the video on social media.

The development came as security was tightened across the national capital ahead of the CJP's proposed protest. The Delhi Police had denied permission for the protest, and Section 163 was imposed around Jantar Mantar.

Who is CJP's Ajinkya Shinde?

Maharashtra native Ajinkya Shinde is reportedly a CJP executive committee member. As the party's organisation in-charge, Shinde is responsible for expanding the organisation, coordinating among CJP workers, and setting up a CJP team in different fields.

The 35-year-old computer science graduate worked with an international IT firm in Pune before becoming an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) cadre, NDTV said in a report. The AAP initially deployed him in Goa but later asked him to join the social media team in his home state. He was the social media coordinator and the convener of its Maharashtra youth wing, NDTV said, citing reports.

Hailing from an agrarian family in Alibaug which later settled in Latur, Shinde's friendship with Dipke dates back to 2016, the report said. Shinde was among the CJP troopers who actively participated in the ‘School Thik Karo’ campaign, visiting poorly managed government schools across India.
