All India Students’ Association (AISA) national president Neha Bora was reportedly detained after they led protests along with activist and political commentator Yogendra Yadav and senior advocate Prashant Bhushan.

General Secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya was also detained with them.

Bora was leading protests to Dilli Haat. Delhi police meanwhile closed roads leading to the venue.

The protesters reportedly surrounded a police bus carrying Bora and the other leaders who were detained near the Safdarjung Airport flyover in Delhi.

In a video message, Bora said, "I am in detention. The movement is not." They urged the protest to continue at the Safdarjung flyover.

The development comes amid a large-scale police deployment by the Delhi police and paramilitary forces to prevent protesters from reaching Jantar Mantar.

The police personnel have set up barricades, vehicle checks and have restricted public transport.

There were also reports of journalists being detained despite carrying ID.

CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke and leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were also detained after their flight arrived in Delhi.

Delhi police said they had denied permission for the protest, citing the delay in the notice.

Neha Bora is one of the prominent student leaders leading the protests against the Election Commission. Bora was also detained on October 4 during the student protests.

Also detained are CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke, co-convenors Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka.

Several left leaders were also detained by the police, including former Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, CPI (M) leader Brinda Karat, MP John Brittas, and former Kerala finance minister K.N. Balagopalan.

Reports say TMC chief Mamata Banerjee and five other party leaders, including Derek O’Brien, Dola Sen, Pratima Mondal, Samirul Islam and Saket Gokhale, were also detained as they sat on dharna at a bus stand at South Avenue. One member said the police drove them around for 30 minutes.

AAP national convenor Aravind Kejriwal was also detained outside his house in Lodhi Estate as he was on his way to Jantar Mantar. AAP leader Manish Sisodia was also detained in Chandigarh, according to the party.

Reports say that police personnel outnumber protesters at the sites.
