As Uttar Pradesh gears up for Assembly elections, a new survey has predicted the outcome of the most anticipated events next year.

The pre-poll survey released by News Leader and Matrize, covering 403 assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh, has forecast that the BJP-led alliance is likely to return to power with 267 seats. The Samajwadi Party-led alliance is expected to win 132 seats. The BSP may win two seats, while others may win two.

The survey also predicts a clear upper hand for the saffron party with the BJP alone projected to win 246 seats, a clear majority. Its ally, the Apna Dal (S), is projected to win nine seats, while the RLD will win three seats. Four seats have been forecast for the Nishad Party, while others are projected to win one seat each.

Though the Samajwadi Party (SP) will better its tally this time, it will still have to sit in the opposition. The survey projects the SP and its allies to win 132 seats. Of that, the SP alone is projected to win 125 seats, while its ally, the Congress, may win seven.  In 2022, the SP could only win 11 seats.

The survey also provides vote share estimates. The BJP-led NDA is projected to win around 44 per cent of the vote, while the SP and its allies may get 38 per cent. This means the difference between the two parties is expected to be 6 per cent, a significant gap. Meanwhile, the BSP is projected to win 0.8 per cent, and others 10 per cent.

The survey divides Uttar Pradesh into different regions and provides seat estimates. Of the 19 seats in Bundelkhand, the BJP alliance is projected to win 17, while the SP alliance is projected to win two.

Of the 118 seats in Awadh, the BJP alliance is projected to win 77. The SP alliance is projected to win 40 seats, while the BSP is projected to win one seat.

Of the 130 seats in Purvanchal, the BJP alliance is projected to win 80. The SP and its allies are projected to win 47. The BSP is projected to win one seat, while others are projected to win two. Of the 136 seats in Western Uttar Pradesh, the BJP alliance is projected to win 93 seats and the Samajwadi Party (SP) alliance 43.
