An HR professional missing since travelling to Gurgaon was allegedly murdered by a former colleague he had gone to meet, police said. The victim has been identified as 31-year-old Yuvraj Singh Manchanda.
Delhi police arrested the former colleague, Anya Vats and her partner, Sanyam Sachdeva, in connection with the killing. Police suspect a financial dispute triggered the murder, according to a TOI report.
Yuvraj has been living with his family in Sarita Vihar and worked for a well-known real estate developer's office.
Vats had previously worked with Yuvraj in 2022 at a real estate firm alongside her partner, Sanyam Sachdeva. Both Vats and Sachdeva are residents of Gurgaon.
Reportedly, an argument happened inside Yuvraj's car that led to the alleged murder.
How the missing person investigation turned into a murder case
According to Yuvraj's family, they last spoke to him at around 7 pm, when he said he would return by 10 pm. His phone went unreachable soon after. A missing person FIR was filed on September 11.
By analysing CCTV footage and call logs, police traced Yuvraj's last known location to Anya Vats. After discovering that both of their phones were switched off simultaneously, investigators began tracking Vats, who quickly became the primary suspect.
Later, it was found that Anya changed her number. Technical surveillance placed her in Uttarakhand, and the police team located the couple and took them into custody.
During police questioning, the accused couple allegedly admitted their role in the murder and disclosed that they dumped the victim's body into a drain near their Gurgaon residence. According to investigators, the body was kept in the vehicle for at least seven hours while the suspects sought a dumping site.
The lead brought police to Badshahpur station, where officers had retrieved an unidentified, heavily decomposed body from a drain on September 10. Yuvraj's family subsequently identified the body from photographs.
While Yuvraj was last seen on September 6, a formal missing person complaint was lodged by his family on September 11. According to family statements, he went shopping with his sisters before visiting an establishment in Lajpat Nagar at approximately 4:00 PM, after which he stated he had a business meeting in Gurgaon.
There were also unverified claims that he was shot twice while inside the vehicle.
Following their arrest, the couple was produced in court and sent to five days of police custody. Police are continuing to investigate the murder, focusing on an alleged financial dispute, the suspects' individual roles, and the collection of key forensic and technical evidence.
