The Delhi Police arrested PG operator Sudhanshu in connection with the Satya Niketan building collapse that killed seven people this week.

Earlier, the police had arrested owner Hariran Gupta, his wife Urmila and their son Mahesh.

Investigators say the property was registered in Urmila’s name, the electricity connection in Hariram’s name, while Mahesh was involved in managing the PG.

Mahesh told police that the rent agreement was shared among him, his mother, the building owner, and the two PG operators.

The five-floor building which collapsed on Sunday was being operated by two business partners who took the property on lease in August 2025. Sudhanshu’s associate Shubhan Tyagi is still absconding. Both of them hail from Uttar Pradesh.

One officer close to the investigation told Hindustan Times, “At least three more PGs under the same name had been operating in the neighbourhood until the collapse.”

Police had also apprehended Sanoj, who was allegedly supervising the repair work in the basement of the building, which allegedly resulted in the collapse. The basement was reportedly being repaired as waste was getting accumulated during the rainy season for the past 8-10 days. According to Deputy commissioner of police Amit Goel.

A five-storey building, a boys' hostel in Satya Niketa, near Delhi University’s South Campus, collapsed around 1:30 pm on Sunday while repairs were underway.

Seven students were killed, and five others were injured in the collapse. Rescue operations continued for over 27 hours.

The decades-old building had a chronic water seepage problem in its basement. The structure had a basement, ground floor and four upper floors.

Each floor had two rooms, and two beds in each room. The structure did not have columns and beams.
