A day after the collapse of a boys' PG killed at least seven in Satya Niketan, Delhi, the Cockroach Janta Party listed seven key demands and called on the government to crack down on the alleged "PG mafia".
Taking to X, CJP spokesperson Saurav Das sought an independent criminal probe into the alleged nexus between the owner, politicians and others. "The larger PG mafia needs to be investigated," the post read.
The second demand of CJP was a time-bound engineering-grade structural audit of buildings, especially schools, colleges and students accommodation. It also sought rehabilitation of students, sealing of illegal constructions and imposing penalties on owners.
The third demand, written in detail, was regarding the 13 district committees constituted after Hauz Rani incident of June 3 2026. The CJP said all records, including enforcement reports, especially the Satya Niketan surveys, should be published within 48 hours.
The details sought by the CJP include all 13 district committees constituted after Hauz Rani June 3, names and designations of their members, every daily and weekly report, number of buildings inspected district-wise, number of buildings found illegal or unsafe, number of notices issued, number of buildings sealed or demolished, number of cases where action was taken, the date when inspections stopped or were scaled down and the officer who authorised it.
It also sought answers regarding whether Satya Niketan was surveyed. "If yes, what was found; if no, why a major DU student-PG hub was excluded," read the post.
The fourth demand was to set up a public searchable database showing whether each student establishment is sanctioned and safe.
CJP also urged the government to construct more hostels to accommodate lakhs of students in DU and other institutions.
The party demanded ₹1 crore for the families of the deceased and ₹20 lakh for the injured.
While listing the seventh demand, Saurav pointed out that it was the most important one: "Ministerial accountability be fixed. Ashish Sood, the urban development & planning and education minister of Delhi. Why were the 13 district committees’ work wound down under him?"
