The Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) has filed a complaint against right-wing influencer Swatantra Bhardwaj for allegedly using the name of party president Chirag Paswan in connection with an assault on the father of a student activist during a Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest in July.

The complaint, filed at the Parliament Street police station in New Delhi, stated that neither Paswan nor the party had any association with Bhardwaj. It also said the party stood with the student and her injured father.

Police are examining the complaint for further action, and no case has been registered so far.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Paswan alleged that Bhardwaj had misused his name as well as those of other political leaders, and said he had lodged a complaint against the influencer.

“No action despite the accused admitting to an attack that could have been fatal sets a bad example; I take responsibility for ensuring justice for the family,” Paswan said.

Delhi Police detained Bhardwaj in Uttar Pradesh on Friday, hours after CJP workers staged a protest outside the Parliament Street police station demanding his arrest.

Bhardwaj, 22, recently claimed in an interview that he had “cracked the skull” of Nishu’s father and escaped arrest because of his political connections, triggering widespread outrage on social media.

“I cracked the skull of Nishu’s father. Do you know which section this crime attracts? Section 307. He needed 60 stitches. The man was being taken away in an ambulance in a serious condition. His daughter was standing outside the police station and saying that she would die by suicide if her father didn’t get justice. But I was not even jailed. I was out and about through the night,” Bhardwaj said in the interview.

Bhardwaj also invoked the names of several political leaders, claiming to have close associations with them.

“I have the blessings of Hanuman upon me. And secondly, Kapil Mishra is my elder brother. They say Kapil Mishra called and I was released. Chirag Paswan is my elder brother. How many leaders do you know? Do you know Modi ji? Modi ji is also my elder brother. I have everyone’s support,” he claimed.

On Friday, CJP workers staged a protest outside the Parliament Street police station demanding Bhardwaj’s arrest. He was subsequently detained in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, later in the day.

Nishu, the student activist, meanwhile alleged that she had received online threats after filing a complaint over the assault on her father.

“I was ashamed of even stepping out. For a few weeks, I could not go to school. I feel everyone is judging me. I hope police will take action,” Nishu told the media.
