Subdued rainfall activity is likely to continue over Peninsular India for at least one more week, an India Meteorological Department (IMD) release said on Saturday. Residents of Delhi should brace for winds blowing at 40-50 kmph, it said. As per the weather department, isolated heavy rainfall is likely in places across Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, and West Uttar Pradesh on September 5 and 6.

Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Assam, Meghalaya, and Kerala are the states that should expect rainfall in the coming days.

"Isolated heavy rainfall likely over Uttarakhand during 5th-7th September and during 10th-11th September; Fairly Widespread to widespread rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm and lightning likely over Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim during 5th-11th September," the IMD statement read.

Here are five salient weather updates for the coming week as per the latest IMD release:

  • Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall is likely to hit the Konkan region and Goa between September 5 and 9. For the next two days, these areas may experience isolated to scattered rainfall. Isolated to scattered rainfall may also be witnessed in Gujarat and Maharashtra on these days.
  • Isolated to scattered rainfall is likely over coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, Kerala, north interior Karnataka, Rayalaseema, south interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Telangana during the period between September 5 and 11. Isolated rainfall may also be experienced in coastal Karnataka until Monday (September 7).

  • Isolated thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph) are likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on Saturday and Sunday, with gusty winds (speed reaching 30-40 kmph gusting to 50 kmph) likely over north interior Karnataka and south interior Karnataka on the same dates.
  • While fairly widespread rainfall accompanied with thunderstorms and lightning is likely over Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi today, east Rajasthan and western Uttar Pradesh should brace for the same until the day after tomorrow (September 7). Uttar Pradesh may also get thunderstorms from September 6 to 8. Isolated rainfall accompanied with thunderstorms and lightning is also possible in other parts of northwest India as well.
  • Isolated heavy rainfall may strike Gangetic West Bengal (September 8-9), Jharkhand (September 9), Bihar (September 6-8), and Odisha (September 9-11). The bulletin added that fairly widespread to widespread rainfall accompanied with thunderstorms and lightning is likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim until September 11, Friday. The same should be expected for Gangetic West Bengal (September 7-11), Jharkhand (September 8-10), Bihar (September 5-7), and Odisha (September 9-11).
