A new faction named the Cockroach Janta Party-Democratic (CJP-D) was announced by activist Manish Brahmbhatt on Thursday.
He alleged the CJP had sold out and politicised itself after the success of the movement’s protest at Jantar Mantar, Delhi, where it demanded the resignation of the then Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
“Abhijeet Dipke and the others formed a 12-member team while sitting in the comfort of their homes,” Brahmbhatt said, accusing the CJP of being on “Kejriwal’s team” and of playing “high command” politics.
"After the movement's success, not a single volunteer or protester was invited or consulted for their opinion. Nor were the people connected via social media or Instagram asked about the necessary criteria; instead, they formed the team by including eight people associated with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), along with a female friend and college friends,” he told PTI.
He also accused Arvind Kejriwal of being the brains behind the formation of CJP.
"The idea behind forming this team also originated with Arvind Kejriwal, as he has been deceitful from the very beginning. When the Anna movement began, he exploited Anna," he added.
Brahmbhatt, who was once part of the satirical outfit-turned-pressure group, wanted the CJP to have representation of five volunteers or protesters from each Indian state. He claimed that his suggestion—that the selection of members for the national team should not be dictated by a 'high command' or by a single leader—was rejected.
What does the CJP-D aim to achieve?
Brahmbhatt said that the CJP-D would focus on transparency and accountability. He stressed that accountability should apply to not just the government, but also the new faction, and important decisions would be taken through a democratic process involving its members.
He added that there will be multiple ways to join the CJP-D for the public, including social media, WhatsApp, and a missed-call facility.
He alleged that the CJP’s agenda was to defeat only one party with no intention to speak for the people or raise their voice against a corrupt system. Therefore, according to him, the new faction would raise questions against corruption irrespective of the political party or government involved.
