The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Wednesday expressed solidarity with the INDIA bloc for its November 1 rally, seeking the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke posted on X, "GYANU MUST GO! The Cockroach Janta Party extends its support to the INDIA Bloc’s November 1 rally."
With the hashtags #JaiBhim and #JaiHind, he added, "Nation above all!"
While backing the rally, Dipke did not reveal whether his outfit will take part in the protest at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi. However, he said the CJP will support all organisations fighting for free and fair elections in our country. "Our Constitution gave every adult citizen the right to vote. It is our responsibility to ensure that no eligible citizen is deprived of that right," he said.
Calling for the CEC's resignation, Dipke said Kumar has lost the credibility to hold free and fair elections in the country. "The fundamental principle of democracy is that people get to choose their government, not that the government gets to choose its voters. By undermining this very principle through SIR, Gyanesh Kumar has lost the trust required to oversee free and fair elections. His resignation is therefore necessary to restore the credibility and independence of the Election Commission," he wrote.
The CJP leader pointed out that during the framing of the Constitution, Dr B.R. Ambedkar ensured that every adult citizen would get an equal right to vote, irrespective of their caste, religion, gender, education or economic background.
"That principle must be protected by every government and constitutional institution. The Election Commission’s responsibility is to protect every eligible citizen’s right to vote, not create obstacles to exercising it," he said.
He said the makers of the Constitution place faith in the people at a time when millions of Indians had never voted. "They understood that democracy could only succeed when every citizen had an equal say in deciding the country’s future," he said. "The idea was simple: bring more citizens into democracy, not keep them out of it."
