Shehzad Poonawalla, who has resigned as the BJP's national spokesperson, has once again submitted his resignation to the party, urging the leadership to accept it and relieve him of his organisational responsibilities.

Earlier, the BJP had declined to accept his resignation and had asked him to reconsider his decision. 

In a letter to BJP president Nitin Nabin, Poonawalla said that after "long and hard contemplation," he had arrived at the final decision to exit from the party role and active membership. 

"The events of the last few days, courtesy of certain individuals about whom I have told you in great detail, have forced me to reinforce and stand by my earlier decision," he said in the letter.

Having joined the BJP in late 2021, Poonawalla became a well-known party spokesperson and a prominent Muslim voice in the setup. As a self-described Pasmanda Muslim voice without political lineage, Poonawalla held significant symbolic and strategic value within the organisational hierarchy. His profile aligned with the BJP's outreach strategies toward minority communities and non-dynastic youth.

He had cited "financial and personal circumstances" as the reason for quitting the party. He also added that he would continue to support the vision and work of Prime Minister Modi and the BJP "wherever possible and in whatever format possible." 

"I am only leaving the Vyavastha, not the Vyakti or Vichar," Poonawalla said. 

Emphasising that his decision was not driven by resentment, he expressed deep gratitude and respect for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP President Nitin Nabin, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. 

Poonawalla submitted his first resignation on July 30 this year. 

A decision on his resignation is expected soon as the BJP party president prepares to announce the new leadership team.
