In a tragic incident, the body of a 94-year-old woman, the mother of an IPS official in Uttar Pradesh, was found under suspicious circumstances in her residence in Ambedkar Nagar district.
The deceased has been identified as Indravati, mother of IPS officer Ashutosh Mishra, the Superintendent of Police at Police Bhawan Kalyan in Lucknow. Indravati had been living alone since her husband's death.
The incident came to light when the woman's maid arrived at the house. Finding her employer’s body motionless on her bed, she informed her family and the police. Police arrived at the scene, took possession of the body and sent it for a post-mortem examination.
Though there were no visible injuries on her body, she was bleeding from her mouth, raising suspicions of foul play. Relatives also found her valuables missing.
A complaint was filed by Mishra alleging theft and murder. The FIR filed by the UP police said Mishra claimed he was informed of the death by his uncle, Sachindra Mishra, at 9:49 am. The initial version was that his mother had suffered a heart attack. “He said she had to be taken to a doctor. Upon checking her pulse, her body felt cold. After returning from Lucknow, my uncle, brother, and I noticed that her gold chain, a tulsi garland-style chain studded with gold pearls, nose pin, earrings, and anklets were missing. Blood was oozing from her mouth, and a towel was stuffed in her mouth. Two injury marks were visible on her upper lip. This raised suspicions that she was murdered during a robbery attempt,” the complaint said.
Though a post-mortem examination was conducted by a panel of three doctors, accompanied by videography, the reason of death is not clear. The viscera was preserved, and the heart is being sent for histopathological examination to confirm cardiac arrest. A case has been registered under relevant sections of BNS and further legal proceedings are underway, the police said.
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav attacked the BJP over the incident. "Sad news has been received from Ambedkar Nagar about the murder of the mother of an IPS officer. It is extremely unfortunate that when even police families are not safe in Uttar
