Additional District and Sessions Judge Ravi Kumar Diwakar, from UP's Muzaffarnagar, has garnered attention after he handed out 22 death sentences in 10 cases in the last four months.
Diwakar has previously made headlines for his strong verdicts after he passed the order to conduct a videography survey of Varanasi's Gyanvapi complex in 2022.
The 46-year-old started as an additional civil judge in Azamgarh in 2009.
Diwakar began handing out death sentence verdicts on April 6. Three convicts were sentenced to death for the murder of advocate Sameer Saifi.
The same month, he also handed a woman and her three sons the penalty for another murder.
Another convict was sentenced to death on May 30 and two others on June 20.
In July, a total of 7 convicts were handed the capital punishment in three separate cases.
Diwakar also handed out the sentence back-to-back on August 12 to one convict and four more on August 13 for a 12-year-old murder case.
Some of the cases date back to 2020 and 2011.
In 2020, the convict was handed the sentence for the murder of a home guard.
The 2011 case, meanwhile, involved a highway robbery and murder.
Government lawyer Kuldeep Kumar told PTI that overall 22 persons were convicted in 10 cases and sentenced to death in four months.
Last week, the court sentenced a man to death for abduction and murder of a wood trader. The case occurred in 1999, 27 years ago. The convicted man, Shahnawaz, was also fined ₹1.10 lakh
For the 12-year-old murder case, the judge imposed a fine of ₹1.70 lakh on the convicts, Ramvir, Rajiv, Rahul, and Harender Kumar, as they were found guilty of murdering Pawan Kumar due to an old enmity.
