The body of a 30-year-old female nurse was recovered from the government-run Nil Ratan Sarkar Medical College and Hospital (NRS). Preliminary reports indicate the body was found in a toilet on the premises on Wednesday night around 10:30 pm.
When a police team arrived at the hospital, her colleagues had made a forced entry and moved the body on to a stretcher. “Necessary steps have been taken to seal the crime scene. A post-mortem will be carried out. Other investigations are underway by the homicide squad,” said Additional Commissioner of Police Kunal Agarwal.
No suicide note has been found. Agarwal said it is too early to say anything, and the police have just visited the site to investigate what may have happened. A forensic team will visit the spot to collect samples for further investigation. Meanwhile, CCTV footage from the hospital is being examined by investigators.
The victim got married a year ago. “Our officers are already talking to the husband. They reside in Dum Dum,” added Agarwal.
Initial police investigations reveal that the nurse was scheduled for the night shift on Wednesday and had reported for duty at 8:00 pm. According to her colleagues present at that time, the woman had gone to the restroom between 9:00 pm and 10:00 pm. When the nurse did not emerge after a considerable amount of time, her colleagues began calling out to her but received no response from inside. They alerted the police, who called out her name after arriving at the spot. The toilet door was then broken down to recover the nurse’s body.
