Ever since Vijay-led Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) came to power in Tamil Nadu, actress Trisha Krishnan’s name has repeatedly been dragged into the political discourse by the government’s opponents, often through remarks criticised as being in poor taste.

Days after DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin allegedly made an offensive remark involving the actress, triggering a controversy and his arrest, an AIADMK leader on Tuesday made another unsavory statement referring to Trisha, potentially reigniting the political row.

Udhayakumar was referring to allegations that the chief minister has been appointing people associated with his films to various government positions.

“Producers and technical artists who worked with Chief Minister Vijay in his films are currently being quietly appointed to government positions. For instance, Archana Kalpathi, producer of Vijay’s GOAT, has been appointed as a member of the Temple Board of Trustees,” he said.

He also pointed to the appointment of Karnataka-based Venkat Narayana, producer of Jananayagan, as the Tamil Nadu government’s Special Representative in Delhi, and Jagadish Palanisamy, co-producer of Vijay-starrer Leo, as the chief minister’s personal secretary.

Udhayakumar further cited the appointment of Manoj Paramahamsa, cinematographer of Beast, as chairman of the Film and Television Institute of Tamil Nadu. He also referred to John Arokiaswamy and Ramkumar, close aides of Vijay, being appointed as government advisers.

“Tamil Nadu is now waiting in shock and anticipation to see when an announcement will be made appointing Ms Trisha as the Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu,” Udhayakumar said in a sarcastic jibe at Vijay.

Meanwhile, Trisha, on Tuesday, shared a cryptic message on Instagram that many interpreted as a veiled response to those repeatedly dragging her name into controversies.

“Drama at this age is embarrassing… Go make some money and find peace,” she wrote, without naming anyone.

Udhayakumar's remarks have drawn sharp reaction from the TVK, with a party functionary lodging a complaint with the Thoothukudi district police, seeking legal action against the AIADMK leader.

Trisha’s fans in Madurai also condemned the AIADMK leader’s comments. They put up posters across the city warning that they would not tolerate such remarks and threatening protests across Tamil Nadu.

The fresh controversy comes a week after former Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin was arrested and questioned in Thanjavur over an alleged double-meaning remark alluding to Trisha and allegedly insulting her modesty. He was later released on station bail.
