Shelar criticized the opposition's perceived hypocrisy, stating they support protests in Delhi but remain silent on the events in Jharkhand, where students faced severe police action. He questioned why Gandhi wasn't demanding resignations from Congress ministers in the Jharkhand government and accused the opposition of engaging in a "politics of convenience" rather than genuine concern for students' futures. Maharashtra Cultural Affairs Minister and senior BJP leader Adv. Ashish Shelar on Tuesday challenged Rahul Gandhi, asking, “Will Rahul Gandhi now ask who ordered the brutal attack on students peacefully protesting in Ranchi against the alleged paper leak in the Jharkhand Public Service Commission examination, and whose resignation will he demand? Or will he resign himself?”

The government in Jharkhand is a coalition of the JMM and Congress, with the Congress having four ministers in the government. Shelar also challenged Gandhi to seek the resignations of the Congress ministers in Jharkhand.

He strongly criticised the Opposition, saying that by supporting the protest at Jantar Mantar while turning its back on the Ranchi protest, it was displaying clear hypocrisy.

Shelar was addressing a press conference at the BJP state office. BJP state general secretary MLC Niranjan Davkhare, office In-charge Ravindra Anaspure and Media Head Govind Yetyekar were also present.

Shelar said barbed wire was placed in the path of the students while they were protesting peacefully, patiently and in a disciplined manner, without using any abusive or insulting language. Tear gas was used against them, and they were brutally lathi-charged. Students were severely beaten as if they were enemies. “This is extremely unfortunate, and no amount of condemnation would be enough,” he said.

“Jharkhand Mukti Morcha is not the only party in power. Rahul Gandhi is leading that government with 16 MLAs and four ministers. Therefore, what stand will Rahul Gandhi and Chief Minister Hemant Soren take now? Has the Opposition now turned a deaf ear?” asked Shelar.

“Why doesn’t Rahul Gandhi, who was showing false sympathy in Delhi, go and console the students in Jharkhand? Why are Raj Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray not uttering a word now? Why are the doors of Matoshree and Shivtirth closed to the media now? Will Uddhav Thackeray now go to Ranchi? Will Congress withdraw from the government in protest against the assault on the students? The love that Opposition parties, along with Congress, are showing for the students is totally fake. The Opposition has nothing to do with the students’ future. They just have to play the ‘politics of convenience’,” said Shelar, hitting out at the Opposition.

“They remain silent when their government commits atrocities by using police force, but they create false controversies when they want a political advantage.”

Shelar asserted that the BJP stands firmly behind the youth and students of Jharkhand. “Congress and JMM must immediately accept the demands of the students.”

Talking about the CJP, Shelar said that if it now decides to support the students of Jharkhand, it would simply be too late. “They did not show any concern for the interests of the students while the protest was ongoing for 17 days. Therefore, it would be like acting on somebody else’s orders. CJP’s selective approach towards protests can be seen through this,” Shelar said.

Shelar also claimed that the Opposition does nothing but create a ruckus in Parliament.

“Rahul Gandhi is disrupting the functioning of Parliament by repeatedly making false statements and spreading misinformation. His aim is not to engage in a dialogue or find a solution, but just to create chaos. That is why he keeps changing the target every day. Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be present in Parliament to respond to the Opposition. Be ready to hear the truth from him. Be ready to face him. Don’t be a coward,” Shelar taunted.
