As the agitation over alleged irregularities in JPSC and JSSC recruitment exams enters its 14th day in Jharkhand, student protesters are awaiting talks with Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s government. 

Protesters have submitted the names of their representatives for talks after the Ranchi SDM met them at the demonstration site.

Reportedly, the talks are likely to be held on Friday.  

An 11-member team has been formed by the protesting students to hold talks with the state government. 

"We have formed an 11-member delegation, comprising eight students, two experts and an advocate, in response to the government's offer to hold talks in connection with the stir," said an office bearer of the 'JPSC-JSSC Reforms Manch '.

Meanwhile, a five-member government panel, including ministers Dipika Pandey Singh and Sudivya Kumar, is likely to hold discussions with the protesters, reported PTI. 

Earlier, a five-member delegation had met Soren, media reports said.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Radhakrishna Kishore also announced that a committee comprising ministers—Dipika Pandey Singh, Sudivya Kumar, Chamra Linda, and Sanjay Kumar Prasad—would monitor the protests. 

One protester taken to hospital

One of the six protesters, who have been on a hunger strike as part of a demonstration against the alleged irregularities in recruitment exams in Jharkhand, was taken to a hospital here after his health condition worsened. 

Rahul Kranti, the student leader identified, has been on a fast since Tuesday night. He was taken in an ambulance to the Ranchi Sadar hospital for treatment. 

On Tuesday night, five protesters—including two women—joined Jharkhand Loktantrik Krantikari Morcha (JLKM) leader Devendra Nath Mahto on his hunger strike. Mahto has been on a hunger strike for six days. 

The protest entered its 14th day

The student protesters have been demanding cancellation of the 14th Jharkhand PSC Civil Services Examination and an independent probe into the alleged irregularities in the recruitment test either by the CBI or by a panel of HC retired judges from outside the state. 

They also demanded comprehensive reforms in the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission. 

A student protester on hunger strike, Gulam Hussain, said on Friday, “The Chief Minister had also initiated talks for a dialogue. But it didn't happen due to a lack of coordination. It seems possible that the dialogue would happen today...”

As the CID probe into the alleged recruitment scam intensified, Jharkhand Minister Shilpi Neha Tirkey confirmed on Thursday that 19 people had been arrested so far in connection with the examination irregularities case.

On Friday, two student unions — the All India Students' Association (AISA) and the All India Students' Federation (AISF) — announced that they would hold a march to the state assembly, which is in session, during the day.

Authorities have enforced prohibitory orders within 750 meters of the Vidhan Sabha from August 6 to12 (6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily) ahead of planned picketing by student groups AISA and AISF.
