Blending ethanol with petrol has generated profits worth crores of rupees for certain beneficiaries within the government and their families, but has also caused unnecessary hardship to lakhs of vehicle owners across the country, claimed Maharashtra Congress president Harshvardhan Sapkal on Monday.

He alleged that the vehicles have developed multiple mechanical problems, making the ethanol blending mandate a major scam.

The state Congress chief further alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, and Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis were all responsible for what he called the ethanol blending scam.

So saying, he also called for Gadkari's resignation in connection with the alleged scam.

Speaking to the media at Tilak Bhavan, Sapkal said that the E20 rollout was originally expected to be implemented in 2030, but that the Modi government had hastily enforced the decision to benefit certain vested interests.

There are also widespread allegations that water is being mixed with fuel instead of ethanol, about which Sapkal urged that the truth be revealed.

"Nitin Gadkari has been the strongest advocate of ethanol. There are also several middlemen involved in this scam, and their role will soon be exposed," he said.

He also demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi apologise to the country for "cheating people by selling water at the price of petrol".

In response to a question about Fadnavis, Sapkal also claimed that efforts were underway to move the Maharashtra CM to Delhi and that Fadnavis himself was eager to make the shift.

He alleged that the move to impose Hindi in Maharashtra was part of that larger plan. Sapkal claimed there were even attempts within the Mahayuti government to weaken Fadnavis politically.

"In reality, Amit Shah is Maharashtra's chief minister, while Fadnavis is only a shadow chief minister," Sapkal said.

He further claimed that both the BJP and the RSS wanted "a trusted man from Reshimbagh" to implement the RSS agenda, and that Fadnavis fit that role.

He further claimed that Fadnavis was being considered for the post of Union education minister, because he was seen as the right person to implement changes such as introducing verses from the Manusmriti, restoring the four-fold varna system, and altering the Constitution and the education system.
