Maharashtra Navnirman Sena Chief Raj Thackeray criticised actors Vivek Oberoi and R Madhavan on Saturday for choosing to live in Dubai despite praising PM Modi’s government.

The MNS chief addressed a youth gathering on the party’s 20th anniversary in Mumbai.

He questioned the actor's actions, saying, “Vivek Oberoi, who made a film on Modi and played Modi’s role in it, has also gone to live in Dubai,” Thackeray said. Oberiou had starred as the PM in the 2019 biopic PM Narendra Modi.

“R Madhavan, who praised PM Modi – where does he live? He lives in Dubai,” the MNS chief added. S

“So if you love India so much, if you love PM Modi, if you believe that PM Modi is developing India, then why are you living in a foreign land?”

“Why are they living in Dubai with their families?” he questioned.

He also alleged that the actors chose to work in government-sponsored films like Dhurandhar before returning to live abroad."They will come here, work in a government-sponsored film like 'Dhurandhar' and then will go back to Dubai," he said

Actor Madhavan has earlier clarified that he relocated to Dubai durin the Covid-19 pandemic to support his son's swimming career.

Vivek Oberoi, on the other hand, said that he was in Dubai to start his business.

Thackeray also responded to PM Modi’s comments on the CJP protesters using “abusive language against him and his late mother at Jantar Mantar.

The PM had said that such "misguided children" should be forgiven and guided on the right path.

Referring to the statement, Thackeray said that he agreed with the PM’s statement“I agree with it (PM's statement). No one should use language of such a low level. But he should tell people of his own party,” he added,

“Even they (BJP supporters) should be asked to stop (from using derogatory language). BJP troll teams started this. As you sow, so shall you reap,” he said, noting that even other people have mothers and they also should not be abused.

Tackeray said that the NEET paper leak was just a trigger for the CJP protests and that the response it received was a culmination of all the grievances accumulated over the years.
