Mumbai Police have registered at least 13 FIRs since July 18 in connection with the ongoing protests over alleged irregularities in NEET and other competitive examinations and demanding resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

The FIRs have been filed against more than 400 people across different police stations under charges including unlawful assembly and violation of prohibitory orders.

Additional charges, including disobedience of an order duly promulgated by a public servant and wrongful restraint, have also been invoked against those named in the cases. Police have issued notices to the accused.

A police officer said action has also been initiated in connection with a protest held at Chaityabhoomi in Dadar on Monday without prior permission. An FIR is expected to be registered in the matter, the officer added.

Mumbai has witnessed several demonstrations in support of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP)-led student agitation in New Delhi. On Wednesday, hundreds of protesters gathered at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Garden in Chembur amid heavy police deployment.

Eyewitnesses alleged that police detained several protesters, with some being forcibly taken into police vehicles and later moved to a local police station. After the detentions, police dispersed the remaining protesters from the site.

Protests were also reported at other locations, including near Shiv Sena Bhavan in Dadar.

In Delhi, hundreds of students have been protesting at Jantar Mantar since July 20, when police stopped a "Sansad Chalo" march and used batons and tear gas to disperse demonstrators. Several protesters and police personnel were injured during the clashes.

The protesters are demanding the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged irregularities in NEET and other competitive examinations.
