A 22-year-old medical student from Kerala, Savariya Basanth, was reportedly murdered in Uzbekistan by her Malayali classmate, Sadarul Anam, following alleged religious conversion pressure and brutal torture. Savariya's family claims the assault was not a result of immediate provocation but a prolonged, severe beating from head to toe before her death, with witnesses stating Sadarul repeatedly pressured her to convert to Islam, which she refused. In response to suspicions, her family conducted a second post-mortem in Kerala, and Savariya's father has filed a complaint seeking a thorough police investigation into the incident, while the accused remains in Uzbek police custody with plans for his extradition upon completion of legal procedures.

The family of Savariya Basanth, a 22-year-old medical student from Kerala's Alappuzha who was murdered in Uzbekistan on Friday, has alleged that she was subjected to brutal torture by her Malayali classmate before her death.
The accused, Sadarul Anam, 22, from Malappuram, Kerala, allegedly pressured her to convert her religion, but she had refused, reports Manorama Online. Savariya and the accused Sadarul were first-year students of Bukhara State Medical University. Both male and female students were accommodated at the same hostel.
Savariya has enrolled at the college in December 2025 and she completed her first semester with good academic results, report The New Indian Express.
Savariya's maternal uncle Janeesh alleged that Sadarul did not just hit her on the head with a laptop as previously reported. He added that the attack was not result of an immediate provocation. Instead, the accused brutally assaulted her from head to toe before murdering her, he claimed. She suffered severe injuries across her body.
"Their classmates said the accused Sadarul had asked Savariya to convert to Islam several times. They've seen this. But Savariya did not agree. The children said that no one knows what happened at the last minute," Janeesh said.
Amid suspicion, the family conducted a second post-mortem at Alappuzha Medical College to bring out the truth.
Sadarul is currently in police custody in Uzbekistan. Savariya's father Basanth has filed a complaint with Alappuzha District Police Chief, seeking a detailed police investigation into the circumstances that led to her death.
"The accused is in police custody in Uzbekistan. We will take the necessary steps to bring him back after completing the required legal procedures," a police officer said, according to Express.
