Heavy rainfall is impacting all of Maharashtra, with a red alert issued for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, and Satara districts over the weekend, and the intense downpour is expected to persist until July 7, particularly in Konkan and Ghat areas, with moderate to heavy showers anticipated in western Maharashtra's ghat regions. Educational institutions in Palghar have been closed, and residents are advised to stay indoors except for essential purposes, while the NDRF has been deployed to vulnerable areas following a landslide in Nashik's Saptashrungi Gad Ghat and a tragic electrocution death in Thane's Mumbra due to waterlogged roads, with accusations of negligence leveled against the electricity department. Mahabaleshwar recorded the highest rainfall at 278 mm on Friday, while Mumbai's Colaba and Santacruz have also experienced significant downpours, leading to overflowing rivers and streams in Konkan, increasing dam water storage, and causing widespread waterlogging in low-lying areas of Mumbai, with the current weather system attributed to a trough along the Maharashtra-Karnataka coast and a low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal.
