What to expect as PM Modi to chair high-level meeting with central secretaries today
Policy reforms and improving the ease of doing business are expected to dominate the agenda
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to chair a significant meeting with all central ministry secretaries on Tuesday, focusing on policy reforms and enhancing the ease of doing business, aligning with the government's ambitious goal of transforming India into a developed nation by 2047. This follows a similar high-level interaction in May and a recent meeting with ministers where a roadmap for reforms was discussed, emphasizing improved "ease of living" and "ease of doing business" alongside youth opportunities. During the upcoming session, secretaries are expected to present their ministries' progress on governance, reforms, and citizen-centric initiatives, with the Prime Minister likely to stress timely program execution and reduced administrative pendency, especially for people-focused schemes, building on India's recent robust GDP growth of 7.7% in FY 2025-26.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair a high-level meeting with secretaries of all central ministries on Tuesday, with policy reforms and improving the ease of doing business expected to dominate the agenda.
The meeting, scheduled for 4:00 pm, will mark the prime minister’s second major institutional interaction with top bureaucrats in less than two months. Modi had chaired a similar meeting on May 21, which was attended by Union council of ministers and central secretaries.
According to sources cited by PTI, several secretaries are expected to make presentations on the performance of their respective ministries, outlining progress on governance, reform measures and citizen-centric initiatives.
The prime minister is likely to review “next-generation reforms” aimed at improving ease of living for citizens and creating a more business-friendly environment. He is also expected to emphasise the need for timely execution of government programmes and reducing pendency in administrative work, particularly in people-focused schemes.
The Bharatiya Janata Party-led government has set an ambitious target of transforming India into a developed nation by 2047, marking 100 years of independence.
India recorded a GDP growth rate of 7.7 per cent in FY 2025–26, with 7.8 per cent growth in the January–March quarter, exceeding forecasts on the back of strong domestic demand and government spending. The robust growth is attributed to sustained consumption and investment activity.
In an earlier meeting on June 21 with the Union council of ministers, Modi reportedly outlined a broad roadmap for reforms aimed at achieving the 2047 vision of a developed India. He reiterated that the government would continue to focus on improving “ease of living” and “ease of doing business” while expanding opportunities for youth.
During the May 21 interaction with secretaries, the prime minister had stressed the importance of seamless coordination between ministries and agencies to ensure institutional resilience and operational continuity. He also reviewed the planning and preparation by ministries to deal with the current situation.
According to a PMO release, a range of issues were discussed during that meeting, including strengthening of civil defence mechanisms, efforts to counter misinformation and fake news, and ensuring the security of critical infrastructure. The secretaries were directed to undertake comprehensive reviews of their ministries and ensure robust functioning of essential systems, with particular focus on emergency response preparedness and internal communication protocols.
