Cabinet reshuffle: Shinde's Shiv Sena eyes new ministerial berths. Probable names here
Cabinet reshuffle speculations suggest the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena may gain new ministerial berths, with names like Sanjay Jadhav and Omraje Nimbalkar emerging as potential replacements
Speculation is mounting regarding a potential Union Cabinet reshuffle, with the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena positioned to benefit following the defection of six MPs from the Uddhav Thackeray faction, boosting their Lok Sabha representation to thirteen and securing the fourth-largest party position. Reports suggest Shrikant Shinde, son of Eknath Shinde, might be rewarded for "Operation Tiger" with a ministerial berth, though other Shiv Sena MPs like Sanjay Jadhav and Omraje Nimbalkar are also being considered, potentially replacing current Minister of State Prataprao Jadhav, whose performance is reportedly unsatisfactory to the BJP. Mumbai North East MP Sanjay Dina Patil, another defector, is also a contender, but a recent controversy involving threats to journalists could jeopardize his chances. Separately, Omraje Nimbalkar's recent pilgrimage with Shrikant Shinde is seen as a signal of his potential elevation, despite his denials of seeking a Union ministerial position. The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) led by Sunetra Pawar could also see inclusions, with Praful Patel's name being discussed for a cabinet berth after his previous appointment as Minister of State.

Amid speculations about an impending Cabinet reshuffle, reports hint that the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena could be one of the beneficiaries. With the crossover of six MPs from Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT), the Shinde faction now has 13 MPs in the Lok Sabha, positioning it in the fourth spot, behind Nationalist Citizens Party of India with 20 seats and Telugu Desam Party with 16 seats.
Rumours are that the BJP could reward Shrikant Shinde, MP, son of Eknath Shinde, for Operation Tiger with a berth in the Cabinet. But other names from the party have also now started doing the rounds.
Currently, there are a total of six ministers from Maharashtra in the Union Cabinet. Out of these, two are Cabinet Ministers, and four are Ministers of State. They include Nitin Gadkari and Piyush Goyal who are Cabinet Ministers and Prataprao Jadhav, Ramdas Athawale, Raksha Khadse and Muralidhar Mohol. The party-wise strength is four ministers from the BJP, one each from Shiv Sena and RPI.
Local media reports from Maharashtra hint that Shiv Sena’s Buldhana MP Prataprao Jadhav, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare of India, may lose his spot to one of the MPs who crossed over. Sanjay Jadhav and Omraje Nimbalkar could replace Prataprao Jadhav.
While Mumbai North East MP Sanjay Dina Patil, who recently defected to the Shinde faction, was also considered a probable name, the recent controversy, in which he threatened to assault and kill journalists for asking him about his defection, could prove to be a spoilsport. Patil allegedly threatened to hurl a bomb and kill the journalists, adding that he had previously killed five people and then warned that if the journalists did not turn off their cameras, he would 'forget that he is an elected MP and the consequences would be serious.'
The reports added that the BJP isn’t pleased with Prataprao Jadhav’s performance, which could work in favour of Sanjay Jadhav. The strategy is to further strengthen the party organisation in Marathwada through Sanjay Jadhav, who has been elected for the third consecutive term.
Interestingly, Nimbalkar was seen with Shrikant Shinde at Tirupati Balaji, both having travelled 11 kilometres on foot for this. His temple visit is interpreted by many as a prelude to his accession as a minister. The MP, once a close aide of Uddhav Thackeray, attempted to rubbish the claims, stating that he never sought to become a Union Minister and his goal has always been to raise public issues and accelerate development efforts. He added that now, with the support of the government, development work in the region will be carried forward more effectively.
Shrikant Shinde has also dismissed speculation about his inclusion in the Union Cabinet, calling it media buzz.
Besides Shiv Sena, the NCP led by Sunetra Pawar could also find inclusions within the new Cabinet, according to reports. Praful Patel's name was mentioned when PM Narendra Modi was sworn in for the third time, but he was relegated to Minister of State (Independent Charge). Now it remains to be seen whether the NCP will receive a cabinet berth.
