Jadavpur MP Saayoni Ghosh, a prominent figure within Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress (TMC), is reportedly considering a switch to a rival faction led by MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, according to Hindustan Times sources, adding to the internal crisis plaguing the party. While Ghosh has not officially confirmed the move, reports suggest she is already in Delhi and has contacted Ghosh Dastidar, who previously claimed approximately 20 TMC parliamentarians intended to support the NDA. This potential defection, if confirmed, represents a significant blow to the TMC, particularly given Ghosh's strong past loyalty to Mamata Banerjee and her vocal opposition to the BJP during past elections, though sources indicate she was reportedly displeased with the party leadership's support during the assembly polls. This development follows the recent resignation of TMC MP Sushmita Dev from both the party and the Rajya Sabha.

In what comes as another major setback for the West Bengal chief minister and TMC chief Mamata Banerjee, another one of her loyalists, Jadavpur MP Saayoni Ghosh, reportedly switched over to the rival TMC camp.

Though Saayoni Ghosh is yet to confirm such a move, a report in Hindustan Times, citing sources, said she may already have picked the side of the “dissident" party MPs led by Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar.

Some reports indicate that Saayoni Ghosh is already in Delhi and may have contacted Ghosh Dastidar, amid the intensifying internal crisis within the Mamata Banerjee-led party, which has witnessed open dissent and resignations by senior leaders.

A few days ago, Ghosh Dastidar claimed that nearly 20 TMC parliamentarians decided to support the NDA and had communicated their position to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.

The TMC presently has 28 Lok Sabha MPs and 12 Rajya Sabha MPs.

If confirmed, the decision of Saayoni Ghosh, a former actor, is a huge setback for the TMC as she was one of the major voices against the BJP during the West Bengal assembly polls. She had once famously said, "If Didi wins, Bengal wins," demonstrating how fiercely loyal she was to the TMC supremo.

After the assembly polls setback too, she had remained steadfast in her commitment to the TMC chief, claiming that Mamata Banerjee had been defeated by the stealing and looting of votes. Media reports have quoted sources close to her as saying that she was, however, upset over the lack of support from party leadership when she was under attack during the assembly polls campaign.

The development comes following the resignation of TMC MP Sushmita Dev from the party and the Rajya Sabha. Dev's resignation as MP has been accepted by Rajya Sabha Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan.
