Vijay fans mobilise ‘TVK District Committees’ in Kerala: WhatsApp groups, Instagram pages, and more

Online communities hailing TVK are gaining traction in Kerala, potentially capitalising on a political vacuum and mounting interest in actor-turned-politician Vijay

C. Joseph Vijay may be the new chief minister of Tamil Nadu, but the actor-star-turned-politician has started to gain social media clout in the neighbouring state of Kerala. Many "TVK" groups—official or not—have begun actively mobilising in various districts in Kerala.

The @_tvk_keralam_ Instagram started posting as far back as September 28, 2025. Following it was @tvk_keralastatecommittee, which began this April, mobilising popular support in the state despite not contesting prominently from there. Now there is TVK Kerala Women's Committee (@_tvk_kerala_womens_comittee_), and a slew of district committee groups (Calicut, Malappuram, Alappuzha, and more).

Given that none of them is followed by the official @tvkvijayhq, they could be just fan accounts mobilising people. Unless TVK comes out with an official statement, none of this can be confirmed. Most of them have Meta-verified accounts with a blue tick mark, which, at one time, used to be a marker of "verified" accounts. Sadly, now it is a subscription service that carries a starting fee of two Starbucks coffees a month.

The latest one making waves is the account TVK Ernakulam District, which began actively posting on Instagram as @tvk_ernakulam_district just four days ago. It also mobilised a WhatsApp group "All Kerala TVK Members" on the same Sunday that Vijay was sworn in as the Tamil Nadu CM.

Official groups or not? Here is what we know

For the layman, these groups look like official ones. In fact, it has prompted 375 people to sign up for the WhatsApp group in just a couple of days, and almost ten times that to follow the "official Instagram page" of the "Ernakulam District Committee" page, too.

But the trick lies in the fine print. The official party name of Vijay's TVK is Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. None of the posters these accounts published on social media has anything "official" written on it. In fact, many of them have mentioned Thalapathy Vijay Makkal Iyakkam prominently, which refers to the star’s fan association-turned-social responsibility collective.

Despite the apparent dubiousness and no official confirmation, these pages and groups have garnered thousands of followers in Kerala over the weekend.

The political vacuum in Kerala of the Indian National Congress not being able to decide a Chief Minister as of May 13, despite a marked UDF victory in Kerala, seems to have rubbed some the wrong way, and it feels many in the youth are finding solace in following the star-led leadership in the neighbouring state of Tamil Nadu.

If TVK does inspire a major following in Kerala over the next few months, it remains to be seen how Vijay's party will be able to capitalise on the same, given that they ran on the platform of Tamil identity and a deep-rooted urge in Tamil Nadu to realign the Dravida political direction to its origins, Periyar's Self-Respect Movement.

DISCLAIMER: As mentioned above, there is no official confirmation from Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam as to whether the Instagram profiles or WhatsApp groups are part of the official party outreach initiative.
