Amid the controversy surrounding the cancellation of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET-UG) 2026 over allegations of a question paper leak, Bihar Police claimed to have uncovered an organised “solver gang” during a high-alert vehicle checking operation conducted ahead of the examination.
Rajgir DSP Sunil Kumar Singh told the media on Tuesday that three individuals, including a second-year MBBS student, were arrested in connection with the racket. Police recovered a large amount of cash, forged admit cards, and incriminating digital evidence from the accused.
According to the DSP, police personnel were carrying out routine vehicle inspections when they intercepted two suspicious vehicles for questioning.
“We stopped the vehicles and questioned the occupants. One of them identified himself as a second-year MBBS student. During the search, bundles of currency notes were recovered from the vehicle,” Singh said.
“When asked about the cash, he claimed it was around ₹2 lakh. We then brought him and the vehicle to the police station. There were three individuals in total, and all were taken into custody,” he added.
During the forensic examination of their mobile phones, investigators reportedly found several admit cards linked to various examinations, including NEET-UG, along with financial transaction records and other evidence connected to the alleged racket.
Based on the information gathered from the accused, police personnel were deployed outside examination centres to prevent proxy candidates, commonly referred to as “solvers,” from entering the premises.
“As a result, the solvers could not reach the examination centres, where the actual candidates were waiting for them,” Singh said.
The main accused has been identified as Awadhesh Kumar. The two others arrested are Aman Kumar Singh and Pankaj Kumar.
DSP Singh said efforts are underway to trace the mastermind behind the operation. “The evidence recovered from their mobile phones is being analysed, and people linked to different examination centres are being questioned,” he said.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) on Tuesday cancelled the NEET-UG 2026 examination conducted on May 3 following allegations of a question paper leak. The agency said the examination will now be held again on a fresh date, which will be announced separately.
NEET-UG is India’s single national entrance examination for admission to MBBS, BDS, and other undergraduate medical courses.
