Did Kumbh Mela girl's father forge her birth certificate? POCSO court stays plea alleging she was minor when she got married

The prosecution told the court that the girl's father, identified as Vijay Singh Bhosle, forged the documents to show she was minor by misusing the birth records of her younger sibling

A POCSO court in Thiruvananthapuram stayed a petition alleging that the viral Kumbh Mela girl was a minor at the time of her marriage.

This comes after the prosecution told the court that the girl's father, identified as Vijay Singh Bhosle, forged the documents to show she was minor by misusing the birth records of her younger sibling. According to the prosecution, her father allegedly requested the Madhya Pradesh Revenue Divisional Officer to cancel her birth certificate. The prosecution also claimed that the documents were forged with the intention of implicating certain political leaders as mentioned in the complaint.

While posting the matter for further hearing on May 20, the court observed that a related case is under probe in Madhya Pradesh. It has sought a report from the state police.

To prove that the girl was aged 18 when she got married on March 11, the prosecution produced multiple documents before the court. These included an Aadhaar card issued on May 20, 2015 when she was seven and a renewed Aadhaar card issued on January 6, 2026. Her PAN card, ration card and voter ID were also produced to prove her age.

The viral Kumbh Mela girl tied the knot with actor Farman Khan on March 11. The wedding at Arumanoor Nainar Temple was attended by CPI(M) state secretary M.V. Govindan and minister V. Sivankutty. The same day, she filed a police complaint at Thampanoor police station, claiming her family had been forcing her marry someone else.
