Even as he, and other Rajya Sabha MPs who deserted the AAP, face the “gaddar" (traitor) barb as they have merged with the BJP, Raghav Chadha claimed that they left the AAP after being "disappointed" and "disgusted" with the party.
He said every "patriot" who nurtured the Aam Aadmi Party has either left the party or is leaving it.
Every honest, hardworking person feels that there is no longer room for work in the AAP, he claimed and charged that the party is walking the wrong path and nobody wants to be associated with it, possibly hinting at more defections.
"Consequently, one by one, many leaders have left the Aam Aadmi Party. The Constitution, drafted by Baba Saheb Ambedkar, empowers elected MPs to leave their party if they feel that it has fallen into corrupt and compromised hands or is going down the wrong path," he said.
Chadha said seven MPs—Sandeep Pathak, Ashok Mittal, Harbhajan Singh, Rajinder Gupta, Swati Maliwal, Vikramjit Sahney, and himself— left the party because they believe that the AAP has fallen into corrupt hands.
He countered the charge that they left the party out of "fear", saying they did not leave the party out of fear, but after being disappointed with the Aam Aadmi Party. "We left not out of fear but disgusted with the Aam Aadmi Party..."
Chadha further said, "Another important point is that today, Sheesh Mahal Part Two has come in Delhi. Some pictures of it have surfaced. If there was one major reason for the Aam Aadmi Party's loss in the Delhi elections, the Sheesh Mahal was one of the main reasons for the party's defeat. But today, not even a year has passed since the Delhi elections ended, and Sheesh Mahal Part Two has come. I wonder how the few remaining good workers of the Aam Aadmi Party will respond when people in the streets and localities ask them questions about Sheesh Mahal."
