The incident took place around 10:30 pm at the Lasudia police station area, located in the Shiv Vatika Township on MR-11. ‘

Shampa Pandey, a software engineer and a mother of two, had gone with other residents to protest against the operation of an Airbnb in Shiv Vatika Smriti Enclave in Indore

Kuldeesp Chaudhary had allegedly rented out his seventh-floor penthouse on Airbnb, resulting in many strangers coming in and out of the building.

The residents of the building have reportedly had a meeting with Chaudhary on Sunday, hoping to resolve the dispute. However, the property was rented out again on Wednesday. In protest, some of the residents decided to cut off the power to the penthouse.

In response, Kuldeep came downstairs and cut the power to the other flats, triggering a confrontation that soon escalated into violence.

One resident who spoke to NDTV said, "Kuldeep Chaudhary had called his son saying, 'Aa jao, aaj inka maamla settle karna hai' (Come, we need to settle this today)," recalled a resident. "Chaudhary's son, Monish, got so aggressive that he rammed into people and then broke the society gate before leaving."

The CCTV footage obtained by police from the complex shows Monish pulling out his Swift car and driving into the security guard’s wife, who falls to the ground.

As people helped her get up and move to the side, Monish circled around and rammed into Shampa Pandey and drove over her.

Pandey was rushed to the Bombay hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Shampa’s husband, Saurabh Pandey, who is originally from Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh, said that the accused could have stopped the vehicle but chose not to. “He first hit another woman and then drove towards me. I somehow escaped, but he ran over my wife. He didn’t stop even after hitting her and ramming the car into a wall. My wife suffered severe head injuries and fell. After that, he drove over her again,” he alleged.

Shampa, her husband and children had recently purchased the flat and moved to the township. They have two children aged 7 and 10.

“Shampa has two young children, who don't know their mother is dead," said a resident.

The residents of the building say that the penthouse was not part of the original building plan and that they were not informed of its existence at the time of the purchase.

They also alleged that the the penthouse had frequent late-night activity, including visitors arriving until early morning hours. Police are also investigating the identities of the visitors who accessed the property through Airbnb and examining whether any regulations were violated.
