Standing atop his van, in front of a podium, actor and Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam leader Vijay visibly made an effort to pull out the Congress from the DMK alliance. While he chose to attack his political opponent DMK directly and left his ideological opponent BJP untouched, his target was the Congress party.

Addressing a campaign rally at Salem in west Tamil Nadu, Vijay took a dig at the DMK. Without naming the Congress, he said chief minister M.K. Stalin was using the national party only to win elections. Vijay's jibe to pull the Congress to his side comes at a time when there is a visible rift in the DMK-Congress relationship over power sharing.

Recalling an announcement he made at his first political conference in Vikravandi, Vijay said that it was a “political bomb” that is exploding and creating ripples in all the political alliances in Tamil Nadu. It was at the Vikravandi conference that Vijay said his TVK will share power with his allies.

“In my address at the Vikravandi conference, I dropped a political bomb that we will offer a share in power to our allies. That bomb is now creating ripples across alliances in the state. Stalin is jittery and shaken about the demand for a share in power. And this is why he says that a coalition government won’t work in Tamil Nadu. It won’t work for the DMK. For them, alliance is only to win elections. Stalin says Velvom Ondraaga (We will win together) but only DMK will enjoy the wealth. Those who know the nuances will understand what I am saying," Vijay roared holding a microphone in his hand, amid cheers from his party men.

In fact, Vijay's TVK had been sending feelers to the Congress. The national party too had a few of its leaders visit Vijay and some of them talked openly about an alliance with his TVK. Vijay and his party men still believe that the Congress will walk out of the DMK alliance to contest the election in alliance with TVK. Apparently, Congress's demand for share in power and a coalition government in Tamil Nadu stems out because the party has an option in TVK for an alliance.

During the entire 15-minute long speech, Vijay attacked the DMK and also questioned Stalin for not appointing a DGP.
