The parents of a female NEET aspirant who died in Patna last month staged a protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on Sunday, demanding justice for their daughter and calling for an impartial investigation into her death.

The student, who was preparing for the medical entrance examination, was found unconscious in her hostel room in Chitragupt Nagar and was rushed to a private hospital. She remained in a coma for several days and died on January 11.

Her parents have alleged that the Bihar Police attempted to downplay the case by ruling out sexual assault and describing the incident as a suicide.

“I want a judicial probe into the incident and the team should be headed by a sitting judge of the Supreme Court or the high court. We want justice for the family as well as our daughter. If I don't get justice, I may go for self-immolation,” the victim’s father said.

Echoing his words, the victim's mother said: "If we had received justice in Bihar, why would we have come to Delhi? I want justice for my daughter".

The protest was organised under the banner of the Bihar Nirbhaya Sangharsh Samiti (Delhi-NCR) and drew participation from a large number of people from Delhi and Bihar, including members of the victim’s family.

The protesters demanded that the case be investigated under judicial supervision to ensure transparency and impartiality.

According to the police, the student died while undergoing treatment in Patna. While there were allegations of sexual assault, police said medical examinations did not confirm evidence of sexual or penetrative assault.

However, a forensic report on the girl’s clothes, which she had been wearing at the time of hospitalisation, has detected traces of semen, strongly suggesting the possibility of sexual assault and harassment.

On January 31, the Bihar government requested the Centre to order a CBI probe into the incident, despite the case already being investigated by a special team of the state police.
