A newlywed couple was out on an evening walk in Rajasthan's Sri Ganganagar on January 30, when an overspeeding bike hit them.

The husband, identified as Ashish Kumar, 27, died on the spot while his wife, Anjali Kumar, 23, was left unconscious on the road. She later revealed that she was robbed off her jewellery.

Sri Ganganagr SP Amrita Duhan revealed that police were alerted on January 30 around 9 pm that a couple was found lying unconscious on the road. They were taken to the nearby Community Health Centre, where Ashish was pronounced dead.

However, an autopsy revealed that Ashish's injuries were inconsistent with a road accident. He appeared to to have been strangled and there were multiple injury marks caused by a brutal assault. But Anjali escaped without any injuries. Anjali's missing jewellery and her statements raised suspicion.

Police checked Anjali's call logs and found that she was in touch with a man named Sanjay, 25, who lives in her native town of Sadulshahar, Churu district. SP Duhan revealed that Anjali was in relationship with Sanjay for the past seven years but her family forced her to marry Ashish despite knowing about their relationship.

"She was unhappy with the marriage and hence plotted the entire murder," the police officer said.

After receiving Ashish's autopsy report, police summoned Anjali for interrogation. She confessed about murdering Ashish with the help of her boyfriend Sanjay.

It has been revealed that Anjali asked Ashish to let her study in her previous college in Ravla in order to meet Sanjay regularly. However, Ashish refused, eventually leading Anjali and Sanjay to plan his murder two week before the incident.

They also hired two men, Rohit and Siddharth, to help them. They allegedly recced the murder spot a few day prior.

On January 30, when the couple reached the spot, Sanjay and the two associates followed and attacked Ashish with rods until he fell unconscious. Following this, Sanjay smothered him to death.

After the murder, Anjali have her earring and mobile phone to Sanjay to pass it off as robbery. Once the attackers fled, Anjali contacted Ashish's relatives and narrated the concocted accident story.

This comes months after a newlywed woman from Madhya Pradesh, Sonam Raghuvanshi, and her boyfriend, Raj Kushwaha, killed her husband Raja Raghuvanshi during their honeymoon in Meghalaya.
