The brutal killing of a 27-year-old Delhi SWAT commando has left her family in shock. Her brother revealed that his brother-in-law announced the murder during a final, heated phone call, forcing him to witness the tragedy in real time.
Kajal Chaudhary was brutally assaulted by her husband, Ankur, a clerk in the Ministry of Defence, using a heavy dumbbell on January 22. After battling for life for five days, she succumbed to her injuries at a hospital in Ghaziabad on January 27. Ankur was arrested hours after the incident.
Kajal was four months pregnant when the incident took place.
Recalling the horrific phone call, Kajal's brother Nikhil said that Ankur told him to put the call on recording and announced that he was killing his sister.
He told me to record the call for evidence, then said he was killing her. I heard her screams," Nikhil, a constable posted at Parliament Street Police Station, told PTI. The attack reportedly followed long-standing disputes between the couple over household finances. Kajal's family has also alleged that she was repeatedly subjected to harassment over dowry demands throughout her marriage.

During the day of the attack, Ankur had called Nikhil in the morning and told him to make her sister understand. "I asked him to calm down and immediately called my sister," he said.
According to Nikhil, Kajal was usually private about her domestic life, but on that day, she began to open up about her struggles. As she was confiding in him, Ankur reportedly became enraged by her honesty and forcibly took the phone away.
After Kajal's screams, the call was cut off. About five minutes later, Ankur called back and said, "She is dead. Come to the hospital."
Nikhil said that Kajal was physically assaulted earlier, too. A case was registered at Mohan Garden police station based on Nikhil's complaint. "He was initially booked for attempted murder. After her death, the charges will be converted to murder," an officer said.
