A SWAT commando of the Delhi Police's Special Cell was beaten to death by her husband while she was on the phone with her brother. The 24-year-old officer died five days after she was assaulted with a heavy dumbbell by her husband, who is a Defence Ministry official, a daily said.
The commando was identified as Kajal Chaudhary, who was undergoing treatment at a Ghaziabad hospital after being attacked by her husband, Ankur. The police reportedly said that the couple often quarrelled over financial matters. The fatal attack reportedly happened on Thursday, 22 January, at their residence in Mohan Garden, southwest Delhi. When the argument started to get out of hand, Kajal dialled her brother, Nikhil, a Delhi Police constable posted at Parliament Street station.

While she was on the phone, Ankur hit her on the head repeatedly with the dumbbell. Later, he dialled Nikhil and revealed that his sister had collapsed due to his assault, The Times of India (TOI) quoted the policeman as saying. Ankur himself took her to a nearby hospital before Kajal's family decided to shift her to the Ghaziabad facility, the report added.
Ankur, a clerk at the Defence Ministry, was arrested on the same night of the assault and now faces murder charges. He had reportedly slammed the victim's head against the frame of a door before using the dumbbell to hit her.
Kajal joined the SWAT commando unit in 2022 and married Ankur the following year, the daily said. The couple had a love marriage and have a one-and-a-half-year-old son.
