Maharashtra BMC elections: Sanjay Raut questions 'special meeting' as Mahayuti affirms win after exit polls

Amid exit polls predicting a Mahayuti win in Maharashtra's civic elections, Sanjay Raut alleges 'special meeting' of Devendra Fadnavis's confidants. The Thackerays' reunion shows limited impact on results as per exit polls

With major exit polls predicting a massive win for the Mahayuti in the Maharashtra civic body elections, including at the Mumbai Municipal Corporation, the ruling alliance asserted they would assume power with a decisive majority in the municipal corporations.

Welcoming exit poll predictions, Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena leader Shaina N.C said Mahayuti would create history in the Mumbai Corporation. “We welcome the exit polls, but tomorrow, post 12 noon, you will realise that history is being made by the Mahayuti," she told ANI.

Targeting Uddhav Thackeray-led Sena, Shaina said, "There are certain people who choose to work from home, and people have rejected that."

She added Mumbai needs leaders like Eknath Shinde, who worked tirelessly on the vision plan for a pothole-free Mumbai. Exit polls released earlier in the evening predicted BJP and Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena alliance would get majority in the Mumbai Corporation.

Earlier, in the evening, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut launched a scathing attack at Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis, and questioned a “lengthy discussion” between Mumbai Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani and Kamalabai, questioning the outcome of the meeting.

Raut alleged that the interaction may have involved Devendra Fadnavis’s “special treasurer in Mumbai”. In a post on X,  Raut said, "Latest breaking news: Mumbai Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani and Kamalabai’s lengthy discussion and meeting has concluded. Devendra Fadnavis’s special treasurer in Mumbai, favourite builder and what was cooked up in the meeting with Gagrani?"

Meanwhile, on Pune civic body elections, Union Minister and BJP leader Murlidhar Mohol asserted confidence that the ruling alliance will win 120-125 seats.

Exit polls suggest the reunion of the Thackerays has failed to make any impact in the elections. Uddhav Sena and Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena came together before the crucial polls with the plank of "saving Maratha Manoos." According to major exit polls, the Thackeray brothers will win 50-80 seats.
