Congress MP Jothimani accused the Tamil Nadu unit of the party of acting against Rahul Gandhi's interests, and charged that the selfish motives of a few are leading the party on a path of destruction. Jothimani's accusations come amid speculations over Congress's alliance for the 2026 assembly polls in Tamil Nadu.
The Congress MP from Tamil Nadu's Karur said the events unfolding in the Tamil Nadu Congress are a source of "profound concern". Jothimani charged that the Tamil Nadu Congress has allegedly stopped its parliamentary members from submitting the list of polling booth agents to the Election Commission.

"Day after day, the Tamil Nadu Congress finds itself in the news for all the wrong reasons, unrelated to people's issues," she charged. Targeting the Bharatiya Janata party, Jothimani alleged, " A group is lying in wait, ready to exploit any opportunity to incite public sentiments, seize power, and bury the social justice, self-respect, people's welfare politics, and development of this land—values that were steadfastly safeguarded by great leaders like Perunthalaivar Kamarajar and Periyar."
Jothimani asked whether the party leadership in Tamil Nadu has truly "grasped" the magnitude of responsibility. "The unchecked internal party conflicts persisting in the Tamil Nadu Congress are causing profound disillusionment. Without steadfastly advancing principled politics, without speaking about people's issues, and merely engaging in petty factional squabbles, the Tamil Nadu Congress is gradually heading down the path of destruction for the selfish gains of a few," the Karur MP charged.

"The Tamil Nadu Congress is veering onto a path directly opposed to Leader Rahul Gandhi's selfless, policy-driven, fearless politics. We cannot betray his tireless hard work and unparalleled sacrifices," the key leader from Tamil Nadu added.
Jothimani's rant comes amid speculations over Congress's alliance for the 2026 assembly election. While senior Congress leaders from Tamil Nadu have maintained the party's alliance with the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) is intact, rumours are abuzz that a section of leaders are in talks to form an alliance with actor Vijay-led Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). According to unconfirmed reports, TVK too is interested in an alliance with the Congress.
