With the temperature dipping in West Bengal, the New Year seems to be under a chilly spell this time. For the past two days, Kolkata has been witnessing bone-chilling cold. The temperature remained at 13 degrees Celsius and rose by a degree on Sunday. According to the Met Office, the chilly weather is likely to continue till Wednesday. The weather forecast says that the temperature may again drop to 13 degrees Celsius this week.

As per reports, the maximum temperature remained four degrees below normal at 21.4 degrees Celsius on Sunday. Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) said that the temperature in Salt Lake and Dum Dum city is likely to drop to 13 degrees Celsius again for the next two days.

With the temperature dipping, the New Year celebrations are likely to be lean this year. According to RMC, Kolkata is likely to record 15 degrees Celsius on the New Year.

Meanwhile, West Bengal is set to witness dense fog and wind this week. The Met Office cautioned that dense fog may disrupt air, rail and road traffic as the visibility is expected to drop to between 50 and 199 metres. Darjeeling recorded a minimum temperature of 3.8 degrees Celsius, while Bankura remained the coldest in the plains at 9.0 degrees Celsius. The Darjeeling district is likely to witness snowfall in the coming days as well.

The foggy conditions are expected to persist till January 3.
