The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted an active monsoon day with heavy rainfall and lightning expected across northern, eastern, and northeastern states including Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, Punjab, Chhattisgarh, and Assam, with alerts issued for these regions; while Delhi anticipates mostly cloudy skies with temperatures between 37-39°C and a minimum of 26-28°C, other states like Uttar Pradesh and parts of Madhya Pradesh are also forecast to receive varying amounts of rainfall and thunderstorms, with Himachal Pradesh bracing for isolated heavy showers and potential localized flooding and landslides due to continuing monsoon activity. In Haryana, although the monsoon is slowing, the Markanda River has already overflowed in Ambala, submerging crops, and rivers like Tangri, Ghaggar, and Kaushalya are experiencing rising water levels due to continuous heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh, prompting administrative alerts for residents along riverbanks.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted an active monsoon day across several parts of the country with heavy rainfall and lightning over northern, eastern and northeastern states.

States including Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, Punjab, Chhattisgarh, and Assam will witness heavy rainfall. An alert has been issued in these states.

Meanwhile, Delhi is likely to witness mostly cloudy weather as IMD has not issued any rainfall warnings. According to IMD, the maximum temperature is likely to remain between 37 and 39 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature may settle between 26 and 28 degrees Celsius.

Himachal Pradesh is likely to witness widespread rainfall, with isolated heavy showers expected across several districts. The active monsoon spell is expected to continue through the coming days.

Heavy rainfall is likely over Uttarakhand on Sunday. The IMD has also forecast thunderstorms and lightning, and residents in vulnerable areas have been advised to remain alert due to the possibility of localised flooding and landslides.

Punjab is expected to receive isolated heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in some places.

Uttar Pradesh is likely to receive heavy rainfall, while the western parts of the state may witness isolated to scattered showers.

East Madhya Pradesh is likely to experience scattered rainfall along with thunderstorms and gusty winds. West Madhya Pradesh may receive light to moderate.

Scattered rainfall is likely across Chhattisgarh, with isolated heavy rainfall expected in some districts under the influence of the active southwest monsoon.

Torrential rains in the hilly areas caused the Markanda River, in Ambala, Haryana, to overflow on Friday. The rising water level of the river entered the fields of the coastal villages, submerging hundreds of acres of crops.

The monsoon in Haryana is slowing down, but the effects of continuous rainfall in the hilly areas are clearly visible in many districts of the state.

According to IMD, light to moderate drizzle is expected in Panchkula, Ambala, Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, and Karnal. Meanwhile, the continuous heavy rainfall in Himachal has caused the water level of rivers like Tangri, Ghaggar, and Kaushalya to rise, putting the administration on full alert.

The water level of the Tangri River, which flows through Ambala Cantt, is rapidly rising. The administration has advised residents living along the riverbanks to remain vigilant. The river is expected to reach approximately 30,000 cusecs by evening.
