The family of Vijay Kumar Sheoran has appealed to the Ministry of External Affairs MEA to help repatriate his body from the UK. The 30-year-old student from Charkhi Dadri district in Haryana died after a stabbing incident last week.

Vijay’s elder brother, Ravi Kumar, sought immediate assistance and complete support in bringing back his brother’s mortal remains. He said that the family was “devastated by this unfortunate incident” He also said that the family cannot handle the difficult paperwork, legal steps and expenses needed to bring his body back home. They said that it was extremely difficult for them to handle the process from India without official support. “We request the government to help us so we can perform his last rites here,” Ravi told PTI.

Vijay was enrolled at the University of the West of England, Bristol and was pursuing management studies. He had left his government job with the Central Board of Excise and Customs to pursue his studies.

Five suspects aged between 22-35 were arrested in connection to the case, but all of them got out on bail as investigations continue.

Officers had found Vijay with serious stab wounds at around 4:15 am on November 25 on Barbourne Road. He was rushed to the hospital but died later that day.

The case is being investigated by the Worcester CID team of West Mercia Police.

A crowdfunding initiative was started by non-resident Indians so that Vijay’s body could be sent back home as soon as possible, according to London-based lawyer Sukhvinder Nara, who is a former senior deputy advocate general in the Punjab and Haryana high court.
